Griner to Pilot New Player Coach Development Program

MIAMI (Nov. 4, 2026) — Unrivaled today announced its season three Player Pool, featuring Kaila Charles, Brittney Griner, Gabriela Jaquez, Raven Johnson, Ta’Niya Latson and Olivia Nelson-Ododa. Building on the model established in season two, the Player Pool will provide participating athletes with access to league resources and opportunities to contribute to Unrivaled clubs throughout the season.

Player Pool athletes will practice daily, train with a dedicated performance staff and have full access to the same amenities as all Unrivaled athletes throughout the season. Should an injury occur, players from the pool will be assigned to clubs as needed. Once their role is complete, they will return to the pool until their next assignment.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Kaila, Gabriela, Raven, Ta’Niya and Olivia to Unrivaled, and fortunate that one of our inaugural Unrivaled athletes, BG, is going to provide invaluable leadership as part of this year’s Player Pool,” said Unrivaled President of Basketball Clare Duwelius. “Our Player Pool was instrumental to the success of the league last season, and this group will build on that impact.”

Charles concluded her second season with the Golden State Valkyries and sixth WNBA season overall, culminating in a WNBA Championship. She averaged 6.3 points per game, along with career highs of 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists. The guard-forward ranked sixth in the league in total rebounds and eighth in total steals among bench players. Charles was selected 23rd overall by the Connecticut Sun in the 2020 WNBA Draft after a standout career at Maryland, where she ranks among the program’s top 10 in points and rebounds.

Griner, a founding player of Unrivaled, returns for season three as part of the Player Pool, where she will pilot the league’s new Player Coach Development Program. Through mentorship from Unrivaled’s head coaches and hands-on coaching experience, Griner will develop her leadership and coaching skills while continuing to compete on the court. Griner played for Phantom BC in 2025 and Vinyl BC in 2026, averaging 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for her career. She recorded a career-high 29 points and nine rebounds against Mist BC on Jan. 24, 2025, one of five 20-point performances she recorded during the league’s inaugural season.

Jaquez was selected fifth overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2026 WNBA Draft and averaged 7.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. The guard ranked tenth amongst rookies for total steals on the season and started in 18 games. She played a key role in UCLA’s 2026 NCAA title run, recording 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the championship game before earning All-Tournament Team honors.

Johnson was selected 10th overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2026 WNBA Draft after guiding South Carolina to two national championships (2022, 2024) and appearing in five NCAA Final Fours. She was named the 2026 SEC Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-America honors in her final season with the Gamecocks. Johnson appeared in 39 games for the Fever, averaging 3.1 points and 1.7 assists per game. She scored 14 points off the bench in her playoff debut against the Aces on Sept. 27.

Latson, a member of the 2025 Future is Unrivaled Class, was selected 20th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2026 WNBA Draft. She spent three seasons at Florida State, leading the nation in scoring at 25.2 points per game in 2025 and becoming the fastest player in program history to reach 2,000 points. Latson transferred to South Carolina for her senior season, earning an All-America honorable mention and a spot on the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team. After appearing in 10 games for the Sparks, she was waived on July 6 and signed a development player contract with the Las Vegas Aces on July 8.

Nelson-Ododa concluded her fifth career WNBA season with career highs of 10.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Drafted No. 19 overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2022 WNBA Draft, Nelson-Ododa was traded to the Connecticut Sun in 2023. Prior to the WNBA, she led Connecticut to three NCAA Final Fours and a national championship appearance in 2022. She ranks sixth in program history in blocked shots and earned All-Big East First Team honors her senior year.
