Burrell’s Career Night Helps Vinyl BC Snap Laces BC’s Five-Game Winning Streak

MIAMI (Jan. 31, 2026) — Rae Burrell scored a career-high 22 points as Vinyl BC handed Laces BC their first loss in 21 days, defeating them 70-63 to improve to 3-5 on the season.
“We followed the game plan very well,” Vinyl head coach Teresa Weatherspoon said. “We had a lineup change, and the energy from that lineup was what we needed.”
That change came with Burrell making her first start of the season in place of Courtney Williams. Laces opened the game on an 11-3 run, before the Vinyl responded with a 10-4 spurt to pull within two heading into the second quarter.
Jackie Young scored the Laces’ first eight points of the second and was the club’s lone source of offense until Jordin Canada scored in the final 90 seconds of the half.
The Vinyl’s starting trio of Burrell, Dearica Hamby, and Rhyne Howard took control in the second, accounting for 17 of the club’s 21 points. The unit also made its presence felt defensively, holding the Laces to 25% shooting and just 10 points in the period to take a 34-25 halftime lead. It marked the Laces’ lowest-scoring second quarter and first half in club history.
Burrell and Hamby carried the momentum into the third, combining for the Vinyl’s first 14 points of the quarter as their lead grew to double figures.
A 5-0 burst from Brittney Sykes helped the Laces trim the deficit back down to single digits, as she and Young combined for 14 of the club’s 26 third-quarter points. Both clubs shot better than 50% in the period, with the Laces winning the quarter, 26-24, but still trailing 58-51 entering the fourth.
The Laces made a late push, going on a 9-2 run to cut the lead down to two on a Canada layup. Howard answered with a 3-pointer to bring the Vinyl within one point of the winning score. Moments later, Burrell sealed the win by intercepting a pass from Sykes and knocking down the game-winning free throw, handing the Laces just their second loss of the season.
Burrell finished with a career-high 22 points and tied the Unrivaled single-game steals record with five.
“I go 100% no matter what,” Burrell said. “Coach gave me the gameplan on what to do, so I just tried to make sure I executed that as best as I could.”
Hamby recorded her third double-double of the season for the Vinyl, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Young led the Laces with 17 points.
“We didn’t play with enough force, especially in that second quarter,” Laces head coach Andrew Wade said. “We turned it on late, but we just can’t get away with all that.”
