Duo of Sykes, Young Lead Laces BC Past Lunar Owls BC, 84-72

MIAMI (Jan. 12, 2026) — The Laces’ duo of Brittney Sykes and Jackie Young proved to be too much for the Lunar Owls to handle on Jan. 12. Sykes (25) and Young (22) combined for 47 points as the Laces improved to 2-1 on the Unrivaled season. The Lunar Owls fall to 0-3 with the result.
“Our guard play has been exceptional. [Sykes and Young] are two extremely elite two-way guards, really grateful they are Laces,” Laces BC Head Coach Andrew Wade said.
A back-and-forth first half saw the Laces trail 43-40 at halftime.
They came alive in the third quarter, outscoring the Lunar Owls 29-21, to open an 11-point lead heading into the fourth. Sykes scored the final eight points of the game and the game-winning layup to secure the 84-72 victory.
For the Lunar Owls, Aaliyah Edwards and Marina Mabrey did the bulk of the scoring offensively, combining for 64 of the team’s 72 points.
Edwards posted a career-best 38 points along with 13 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double to begin the season. Mabrey added 26 points, six assists, and four made three-pointers.
Newcomers on the Laces roster such as Maddy Siegrist have enjoyed the experience of beginning to find their role. Siegrist tallied a career-best 13 points, helping the Laces bench outscore the Lunar Owls’ 27-5.
“To be able to play with all-stars every day, this is the best way to do it, getting to play with the best and learn from them,” Siegrist said.
