Lunar Owls BC Earns First Win of the Season, Defeats Vinyl BC 68-57

MIAMI (Jan. 19, 2026) — Lunar Owls BC pulled away with its first victory of the 2026 season, beating Vinyl BC 68-57 to conclude week two action. The Lunar Owls improve to 1-4 on the year as the Vinyl fall to 2-3.

“Everyone came and contributed and it was a team win,” Lunar Owls forward Aaliyah Edwards said.

The Lunar Owls seized control of the game in the third, led by duo Marina Mabrey and Edwards, who scored 16 of the club’s 20 points in the quarter. Defensively, the Lunar Owls held the Vinyl to shooting just 17% from beyond the arc. A late Brittney Griner and-one brought the Vinyl within six, 57-51, heading into the fourth.

Lunar Owls BC started the fourth on a 4-0 run and never looked back. After an Erica Wheeler free throw put Vinyl BC within eight, 65-57, Mabrey buried a stepback triple to give the Lunar Owls their first win of 2026.

Mabrey finished with a game-high 31 points and nine rebounds. Edwards posted her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, including six offensive boards.

“Even though she’s young in the league, she’s a true pro,” said Lunar Owls Head Coach DJ Sackmann about Edwards.

Sackmann also noted the club’s vision for Edwards entering the season, which included mentorship from captain Napheesa Collier.

“When we picked up Aaliyah, the idea was she was going to be mentored by Phee,” Sackmann said. “She’s able to mentor her, but not able to play. It’s still great that Phee can be around the locker room. Phee is an unbelievable leader. Aaliyah is being a sponge, taking it all in right now, and it’s showing.”

Rhyne Howard led the Vinyl with 20 points and five rebounds. Courtney Williams added 14 points and four assists.

Williams emphasized that the result will benefit the Vinyl moving forward.

“You want to be in those types of battles early on so you can feel it,” Williams said. “See what you need to do, and how you can adjust.”
