First-Half Surge Pushes Vinyl BC to 81-66 Victory over Breeze BC
UnrivaledJan 17, 2026, 10:00 PM ET

MIAMI (Jan. 17, 2026) — Vinyl BC got back to .500 on the Unrivaled season with a 81-66 victory over Breeze BC that was catapulted by a 50-point first-half performance. The Vinyl improve to 2-2 as the Breeze fall to 2-2.

“We wanted to get a quick start and just go from there and impose our will early,” Vinyl BC Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon said.

The Vinyl set the tempo from the jump. Rhyne Howard, Dearica Hamby and Brittney Griner all reached double figures in the first half, scoring 19, 11, and 11 points, respectively. As a club, the Vinyl pulled in 28 rebounds and notched 10 assists to take a 20-point lead into halftime.

Howard led all scorers with 30 points on the night. The guard went 6-of-11 from behind the arc, matching Breeze BC’s total made threes herself. The Vinyl won the rebounding battle 38-34, dished out seven more assists and forced 12 Breeze turnovers for 15 extra points.

After trailing by as many as 23 late in the third, the Breeze found themselves within 11 in the fourth quarter. A Paige Bueckers pull-up jumper made it 75-64, with the 81-point target score still up for grabs. Bueckers finished with 13 points and sank two triples in the period.

Her teammate Kate Martin praised her ability takeover in key moments.

“I was gonna go in for her, and then I just sat back down. When she’s ready to take over a game, she has that ability to,” Martin said.

Despite the loss, Breeze BC Head Coach Noelle Quinn emphasized how beneficial a game like this can be for her club moving forward.

“We have to make sure we’re being students of the game and taking this game and looking at what we need to improve upon,” Quinn added.

Vinyl BC saw Brittney Griner emerge off the bench as a key factor for her club on both sides of the ball, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. She credited her teammates for helping her energy get unleashed on the floor.

“My teammates, that’s what got me going. I wanted to come in and be a spark, I was able to do that, and they put me in good positions,” Griner said.
