Laces BC Edges Phantom BC in Thrilling Finish, Improve to 3-1

MIAMI (Jan. 16, 2026) — A thrilling fourth-quarter finish at Sephora Arena saw four lead changes and three ties as Phantom BC erased a 7-point deficit in the final stanza, tying it up before Brittney Sykes sank a game-winning pullup jumper to secure the Laces’ third win of the season.
Laces BC got back in the win column, improving to 3-1 after picking up their first loss of the year to Mist BC on Jan. 10. Phantom BC falls to 2-2 with the result.
The Laces starting core of Sykes, Alyssa Thomas and Jackie Young combined for 53 of Laces BC’s 76 points, with Thomas recording a career-high 19 points, six rebounds and four assists.
“Every time that we take the floor knowing that we got Jackie and [Thomas] in our lineup, we feel like we have a great shot to win,” Laces head coach Andrew Wade said after the game.
Phantom BC overcame a 27-18 first-quarter deficit to cut the lead down to four at halftime. The score remained tight the rest of the way as Kelsey Plum and Aliyah Boston produced 30 of the club’s 32 points in the second half. Plum finished the game with a team-high 25 points, with Boston adding 23 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Kiki Iriafen, who chipped in 10 points off the Phantom bench, spoke about being able to learn from a player like Aliyah Boston.
“She’s incredible, just having someone like that in front of me, I’m trying to be a sponge and soak up everything,” Iriafen said.
Laces BC held one of Unrivaled’s strongest rebounding teams off the glass, limiting Phantom BC to just 22 rebounds after the club set the league single-game rebounding record with 44 in their last matchup. The Laces defense also forced 11 Phantom turnovers, resulting in 14 points off turnovers.
“We just need to do a better job of being more intentional about stopping certain players and not allowing teams to get whatever they want,” Phantom BC Head Coach Roneeka Hodges added.
